We’re midway through the year, and a great new project has landed: redesigning and building a new website for Hans Christmas Andersen, a Christmas tree grower and seller in Surrey. The site had to be ready by October to ensure it was ready for the seasonal pumpkins they also sell—and, of course, for the Christmas tree period!
Working with the team at their head office, we quickly got to work understanding what they didn’t like about their old website and what they wanted for their new one. The main design goal; it had to be fun!
From a functional perspective, their old site was hard to edit, so making it simple to manage by the office team on a regular basis was key, but adding things like pop-ups and ensuring it was more obvious they had three locations where people could buy trees was also critical to the success of the site.
Diana, our designer, got to work on the initial design layouts for each of the pages. There were a few back-and-forths between Diana and the team, but we eventually got it looking just right for them and moved on to building the site using WordPress.
Their old website used a bespoke editing system from the company that developed it, meaning it couldn’t be moved and only had fairly simple features. WordPress allowed us to add lots of different features, such as pop-ups, animation and complex forms, as well as having the excellent Beaver Builder page editor system, which the team at Hans loves using. And with WordPress being self-hosted its easy to move from host to host should they ever need to.
We’re excited to see how well the site performs this Christmas season and will be on hand to help with any future edits or changes they’d like to make.
