Website design and development process
Since 2012, SWSweb has worked with a wide range of website platforms. We usually create websites from scratch but also redesign or rebuild existing sites to improve navigation, user experience, and overall site cleanliness and design.
Whatever your project, we go through a similar process to the one below to ensure you get the best-performing website for your requirements.
1. Understanding your requirements
We start by working with you to understand your goals via a call or in person. We'll determine whether you're looking to focus on search engine ranking or if the site is just a brochure for your business.
Do you like your existing site but its hard to edit, or perhaps it just needs a new design, or is it a new business that will require complete branding, including a logo?
Will you need to make edits to the site frequently, if so a content management system will be needed, or if its unlikely to change much and performance is key a basic HTML site may be better.
2. Design phase begins
Once we understand the purpose behind your site build, our designer will work on initial design mockups for you to approve.
At this point, any colours, fonts, logos, and images you'd like to include can help the design come together. We can revise these initial designs as often as we need to get them to look just right.
3. Website development
Once the design is approved, we'll start building it into a working website on our development server, integrating a Content Management System (CMS), such as WordPress if required, ensuring all site elements can be easily edited by you (or us!) in future.
The development site will be shared with you to see how it's coming together and allow you to work on content before going live.
4. Testing and final approval
Your new site is tested on various devices and web browsers to ensure everything functions as expected.
You and your team can fully check all areas of the site to ensure the content, layout, colours, and fonts look as required. At this stage, we may make further edits and even change some of the initial design options, as sometimes things can be improved during the build or other ideas come together.
5. Time to go live!
Once you're completely satisfied, we'll launch the site on your hosting or our managed website hosting service, subject to your future website management requirements.
At this point, we'll arrange training, if required, on making edits to the site and ensure you have full admin rights to log in. We do not restrict your access like many agencies; it's your website and you should always retain full control over it, with us supporting you when needed.

There are many great systems out there, and we'll always recommend including a CMS in your website build; whether it be WordPress, Shopify or Joomla, we'll provide training for you and your team on how to use it, although, with most systems, they are easy to get started.
