Chameleon Works website performance

Chameleon Works website

Chameleon Works helps leaders and teams within organisations to stay competitive whilst also delivering change. They have a WordPress website to showcase their work, but it wasn’t performing well. Often having downtime and being slow to load, a major issue these days with Google now ranking websites based on their performance.

Why SWSweb?

We have been looking after the ongoing maintenance of the Chameleon Works website for some time on our WordPress maintenance plan without the hosting, as Chameleon Works had been happy with how FastHosts, their hosting provider, was performing.

However, after a year or so, with our uptime monitoring checking 24/7 for downtime it was clear the site was going down, for short periods of time, quite regularly. We also noticed the site, which is quite a large WordPress site, was slow to load. Using Google’s Pagespeed Insights tool, it scored 17/100 on mobile and 61/100 on desktop.

The solution

Moving the website to SWSweb hosting servers meant we could better manage the website; if problems arise, we can access the hosting far faster than when it’s on a third-party system, but more importantly, we know our hosting is far superior to the majority of the big hosting companies.

We keep the number of websites on our servers to a minimum. In contrast, big hosting companies will often cram hundreds of sites on each server, giving fewer resources to each individual site. By only having twenty to thirty sites on our shared hosting servers means each site gets more resources, plus our servers give each site its own resource rather than sharing them amongst all sites.

Our servers use the latest Litespeed technology, a big improvement over traditional servers, allowing more connections and faster performance out of the box. With some fine-tuning, we’re able to make vast improvements, as the following Pagespeed Insights reports show, achieving 93/100 on mobile and 100/100 on desktop after the move.

The cost for SWSweb hosting is very similar to the big hosting companies; £99 per annum plus VAT includes daily offsite backups, 24/7 uptime monitoring and SSL certificate. You’ll find this comparable to the big hosting companies after their initial first-year discount, so if you’re finding your website isn’t running as fast as you’d like, get in touch, and we’ll be happy to offer free migration, and we can do it without any downtime to website.
