Survivors West Yorkshire (SWY) is a male-focused counselling service based in West Yorkshire. They have had a website for many years but needed to make the brand stand out and have a modern look, so a new website was required.

When SWY asked for help modernising their site, we were happy to help.

The solution

An essential requirement was to allow easy editing of the site pages, the ability to add new blog posts and an area to read and download support information and leaflets.

We start our website builds with the design; our designer gets to work utilising existing brand colours and the logo where possible. Fortunately, the SWY logo was already well established along with brand colours, so after an initial mock-up, the design was finalised quickly.

With the design approved, our developers start building the site mobile-first to ensure the site will be optimised to work on mobile devices, as well as tablets and desktop computers. We utilise a fantastic WordPress framework called Beaver Builder, which also provides an excellent mobile-friendly front-end page builder that makes edits easy.

Working with the team at SWY, we worked out which content was required from the old site, ensuring existing pages were made available on the new whilst redirecting any old pages that were no longer needed. Search engines must know when a page is removed from a site using redirects; it’s easy for a new website to lose search engine ranking due to a change in content and inks, so redirecting any removed content is essential to minimise any problems.

With the content in place, redirects added, SEO meta titles and descriptions copied across the new improved website was ready to go live.

Once we put a site live, we perform optimisation, with Google ranking sites higher that load quickly, it’s imperative to make any new website be built for speed. SWY doesn’t disappoint with Google Pagespeed Insight scores of 87/100 mobile and 99/100 desktop.
